May 2008 I have signed the papers

Friends near and far,
Many of you know I'm heading to Melbourne Australia at the end of June to begin a new chapter in my life. Some friends have used this site to report their travels and suggested I do the same. Periodically, I will be making updates to show you were I am and what's going on in my life. I thought I'd make the first entry now and let you all know some of the pre-move plans.
I have officially signed and accepted the position and am waiting for URS to arrange the work visa and other travel documents for me to sign. I moved out of the house on March 30th. It is rented and the new tennents moved in April 1st. I have been staying with some great friends, Rob and Michelle Lennox for the short term. My cell number will stay the same until I leave.

For Mother’s day I went back to Connecticut to visit family. ( Me with my Grandmother and brother, John, photo to the left)
This last weekend I packed up my stuff to ship overseas and ran out to the Coulmbia River Gorge one more time. (me with the sax)
Next weekend I am headed to San Francisco for Memorial Day with a friend Kam Sisco.

Then June 3rd, I leave for 10 days to Fort Lauderdale / Key West with the fabulous and sexy Tony! (Photo to the right) Just to get in a little more GAY vacation time before I’m gone and have to start working.

I want to extend and invitation to everyone I know to come visit me in Melbourne. Australia is a GREAT place and lots of fun exciting things to do. Melbourne itself is located at about the 38th parallel. (Portland is at the 45th) It’s kind of relative to San Francisco. It’s located at the southern end of the continent. I’ll be close to Tasmania and Antarctica. Sydney lies only 450 miles (725 kilometers) to the north east of Melbourne. The winters are much warmer and dryer than we're used to. So come at any time of the year.

I also want to thank everyone in Portland and my family for all the help they have given me in the last few months. Good friends and family have made this transitional phase of my life much easier and I really have appreciated it! The 16 years I have spent here in Portland have been GREAT! Portland is a wonderful city and people, like you, have made that time very memorable.

Brian, I am sad you will be so far away as Abu Dhabi (where I am ) to Melbourne (where you will be ) seems a truly daunting distance. But I am thrilled to see you spread your wings and fly to a new life, a new chapter, and a grand adventure. I have a feeling that this new page in your book will be even more rewarding and magical than you can imagine. Love always, Jan
